How to prepare your home for fumigation

Sealed food containers and covered furniture prepared for a fumigation visit

A fumigation job works best when the space is prepared. Everything below is what our team asks clients to do before we arrive - it takes most households under an hour.

The day before

  • Remove or tightly seal all food, including pet food and anything in open packets.
  • Take pets and houseplants out of the treatment area - fish tanks need to be sealed or moved.
  • Strip bedding you plan to wash; heat treatment in a hot wash kills eggs and nymphs.
  • Clear under beds and inside wardrobes where treatment is needed.

On the day

  • Open cupboards, drawers and wardrobes so the treatment reaches inside.
  • Switch off gas and open flames at the meter.
  • Plan to be out for the period we specify - typically 4 to 6 hours for a home.

When you come back

We ventilate the space and confirm it is safe before you re-enter. Wipe food preparation surfaces, leave treated cracks and skirting untouched for as long as the label directs, and keep the after-care notes we leave with you.
